Welcome to Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore, a fresh and fully renovated hotel that is already setting new standards amongst the array in the country. I had the pleasure of staying for three nights last month during my vacation and oh my, was I taken away by new decor, the room, the facilities, the dining and most importantly, the service.
Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore, under the Shangri-La International Hotel Management Limited celebrated their official reopening back in March. The renovated property has undergone a huge makeover to transition from Traders Hotel Singapore and is now a fresh and contemporary hotel designed to attract the same high valued business and leisure travellers, whether individuals, families or groups.
So tell me more I guess would be the next question, let me take you on my experience and you'll find out.....
The Room - None of the 565 rooms are the same. Each room has a contemporary locally curated wallpaper design highlighting a Singapore theme. I had the shop house design in mine which I thought was super cool, others include a bicycle or goldfish. I stayed in a Club Room located on the 17th floor and to say I was in awe of all the thoughtful touches would be an understatement, I absolutely loved everything about it. From the large, fluffy bed to the high pressure walk-in-shower and the hip gold lampshades, everything was just so trendy and urban with a chic vibe. As well as a spacious desk, free wifi and USB charger outlets, I also had an amazing view of the hotel pool. Executive Suites also include a pull-out sofa bed, a small pantry, a microwave and a SMEG fridge.
The 18 storey hotel also boasts a large and vibrant Club Lounge with open views of the nearby residential neighbourhood and is perfect for travellers who enjoy a bit of exclusivity. Benefits include exclusive check in, week day breakfasts, weekend brunches and free flow of spirits, wines, beers and small bites from 5pm till 7:30pm. Having breakfast in the lounge was probably one of my favourite things to do during my stay thanks to the view of the lush greenery and the amazing selection of food. I really enjoyed popping in to the lounge when I had a couple of hours free (and was peckish) to just unwind and enjoy the atmosphere. The staff were also incredible, super friendly and helpful.
The Facilities - A good pool is always something I look for when choosing hotels and the one at Hotel Jen definitely doesn't disappoint. Equipped with comfy sunbeds, towels and a pool bar, it's the best place to spend the day relaxing and soaking up the sun. There's also a 24-hour gym and health club with a jacuzzi, sauna, steam and treatments rooms which made my stay so much more convenient as everything was on my doorstep.
As if it couldn't get any better, the hotel is connected to Tanglin Mall, which offers a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants within easy reach and a medical centre as well as a hospital is just a three-minute walk away. However, if high end shops are more favourable, the hotel offers a free shuttle service to Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping street pretty much every hour so it's super convenient.
Dining - There are three restaurants in the hotel and one bar, so all meals, day and night are available on hand. J65, the newest restaurant reflects the multicultural cuisine of Singapore, with an array of dishes that are definitely must-tries. Ah Hoi's Kitchen is all about alfresco dining with a Singapore flair. Predominantly serving seafood, the restaurants approach is, true flavours mixed with a reminder of street food. Lastly, Jen's Kitchen On-The-Go is a 24 hour cafe located as soon as you set foot in the hotel. They offer light bites as well as coffee (of course!) and quite often, they turn the cafe in to an event space, where they host coffee workshops, foodie features and other partnerships with local artists. Also, not forgetting Rumpoles Bar, which has a super chilled vibe serving cocktails with a twist, a great selection of beers and wines.
As mentioned above, one of my favourite things to do during my stay was have breakfast in the Club Lounge. There was so much food on offer and it was super yummy too. I always made sure I got up early enough to chill out in the lounge, grab my coffee and food, read the paper and watch the world go by. The Club Lounge is definitely something I'd highly recommend as it's just a nice little added extra to your stay.
J65 was my ideal place to grab a hearty lunch thanks to the wide selection of cuisines. The restaurant is bright, open and roomy making it private and comfortable for diners. I loved the daily noodle specials and sushi selection, and of course the desserts. No matter how full I am, I always make room for sweet treats and there were so many different desserts on offer, I almost fell in to a sugar coma. I also like the fact that J65 is not only open for hotel guests, so anyone can enjoy the amazing food served at the restaurant and it's fairly reasonable in price too.
So that concludes my stay at the amazing Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore and it's been a month since I returned to the UK and I still haven't quite got over the holiday blues yet, I think another trip might be in order. If you're travelling or looking to travel to Singapore then I highly recommend staying at this hotel. It delivers quality, comfort and convenience with value and your most important things in mind, comfy rooms, authentic service and fast, free wifi of course.
