When it comes to summer styling, I always find it so fun to do – more so than winter styling, when technically, all you do is throw on a jumper and a pair of jeans, but there’s something about summer styling that gets me all excited. The first thing I think of is colour – what colour is going to be my summer colour this year? And I tend to gravitate towards that particular shade when purchasing new summer clothing. The next thing I think of is what print I’m going to opt for, then what colour accessories will go with my chosen main colour and lastly, what shoes will go with everything mentioned above.
This summer season, my colour is red – red is shade that suits my skin tone well and looks particularly good with a tan. Luckily enough, I have seen many amazing items in shops and online recently which I can’t wait to get hold of to complete my summer wardrobe. On to prints - now, last year, I was all about the aztec and geo type prints, however this year, I have gone back to the classic favourite of floral. There’s just something about floral print that has summer written all over it and I can’t deny that it’s a super versatile print also.
Accessories wise – gold, in my opinion suits red more than silver does, so I have definitely topped up on a few new bits since deciding on my summer styling theme. I have always been more of a silver toned girl, but I do think gold coloured jewellery and accessories suit red much more. Now, on to footwear - choosing a go-to style of summer shoes. Aside from the classic strappy sandals or the famous sliders (check out my summer sandals edit here), a particular style of footwear I really like wearing during the summer are ankle boots. I know, that at times, when the weather is just too hot, the last thing we’d want to do, is put on some boots, but when you think of a cute summer dress, a nice pair of sunglasses and some simple earrings, boots do finish the look off quite nicely.
So from describing my summer styling theme, I’d like to introduce you to (I mean you have already seen it throughout this post, haa) this hunk of a dress from New Look. I absolutely love the colour and print and I knew that upon laying eyes on it, it had to be mine. I paired it with some gold jewellery, these amazing Chloe-esque sunglasses and the most gorgeous summer boots ever! I have never swished around in a dress as much as I have with this one and if you’re a swisher, this will be your perfect summer dress too.
Do you have a summer styling theme each year or are you more of a ‘go-with-the-flow’ type of dresser? Let me know in the comments or tweet me over at @rainingcakeblog, I’d love to know.
