“Life begins outside of your comfort zone” – this saying is one that I have always believed in. You know that feeling when something big is about to happen, adrenaline is rushing, you feel sick to your stomach, your cheeks are flushed and boom, the magic happens and then you realise that it wasn’t so bad after all right? We all go through it, the process of getting there is tough and you always dread it – well I can assure you that you’re not alone and taking risks don’t come easy. Also, if you’re anything like me, then, you would have analysed every single little detail before even attempting to start anything. In today’s post, I have got a few tips on how to be braver and take more risks, starting now…..
It preps you to carry on
Growing up, I thought I had my life panned out, I wanted to go fashion college and ultimately become a fashion designer, making my own clothes and having them modelled on the catwalk. But that didn’t work out in the end, why? Because I was scared, scared of the risks and worried it was all going to go wrong. As I got older, playing safe was always the best bet and do I regret it? In some ways, yes, because taking risks allows you to adapt to change and adapt to it very quickly. In a sense, it preps you to continue going and to continue moving forward, so you don’t get stuck in a rut and get too comfortable which in turn, can open doors to lots of wonderful opportunities in the future.
The bigger the risk, the better
For me, my biggest risk was moving on from what I studied to work as, in to something completely different. That was a big step and got the ball rolling for me in terms of taking risks and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Leaving my stable job that I knew so, so well and then moving in to a new company with no knowledge of the operations was terrifying to say the least, but I am so glad that I did push myself, because I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing right now and that’s all because I decided to take that leap.
You have nothing to lose
My grandad use to always say to me “If you think is right for you, just do it, nothing can be that bad, that it can’t be fixed” and it’s true. If you have nothing to lose, then take that risk, you can only hope that it will turn out the way it should, but if it doesn’t, then you can always fix it. The worst part is living with that feeling that you wished you had taken the chance. It’s never too late to do what you want to do - we are honestly, braver than we think and it only takes that small stepping stone, that leap of faith to extend your reach and it’s never too far away, trust me.
So, starting today, take that risk and it may just be the best thing you ever did!
