Tiredness and being unwell instantly shows on the skin and when we’re feeling this terrible, especially during the colder months, this isn’t always something that we want to show to the outside world. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to fake looking awake and healthy and is easily doable with the right products. I like to think I have a good routine in place for those days, but sometimes, I am that tired or that unwell that just doing my standard routine doesn’t quite cut the mustard. Here’s a list of my go-to/fail safe products to help me fake that awake glow.
There was no way that this post would be complete without the inclusion of my favourite Jurlique mist. This stuff goes everywhere with me and it’s the perfect ‘pick me up’ product that you all need in your beauty routines. I use this as a toner, a setting spray, a hydration mist – just about everything really and it gives me an instant m6oisture boost as well as leaving my skin looking fresh.
When I was unwell a couple of weeks back, this cured my dehydrated skin. My skin was super dry and this serum soothed my skin and gave me an injection of moisture every time I used it. Thanks to its formulation of thermal spring water, pre-tocopheryl, vitamin E and an advanced form of vitamin c, it restores radiance and brightens the complexion. Whenever I feel that my skin is lacking in moisture and looking dull, I reach for this bottle of goodness and it always makes everything better.
Regardless of how tired I get, I always, always moisturise my skin. Dehydrated skin makes you look even more tired, so if you want to achieve a more awake look, reach for that cream. The Antipodes Rejoice Light Facial Day Cream is non-oily which works great on my combination skin. With the likes of organic ingredients such as manuka honey, macadamia and avocado oil – this cream ensures that my skin is moisturised, healed and regenerated which is all I need when I’m looking exhausted.
This is where the game changes completely – I wouldn’t be anywhere without this 5-in-1 gem of a product. I mainly use it as primer, it adds an extra layer of moisture to my skin and creates a matte base. I always find that when I use this product, my skin looks instantly revived, smooth and plump which when I’m feeling tired – is all I need to fake that awake look. I do love a good multiple purpose product and in my opinion, this one is the best on the market and not too badly priced.
My go-to make up wheel for many different reasons – it can hide a multitude of complexion problems which for me, is a godsend. These colour correcting creams are super blendable and provide good coverage under foundation. The shades I use the most are green for redness, rose for radiance and yellow for brightening. They apply well and are easy to blend in, they last all day too which is fab.
If I had to pick a favourite drug store foundation, it would always be Bourjois Healthy Mix (I am shade 52, Vanilla). I have used this foundation for years and despite changing often because I try out a lot of products for this blog, I will always go back to this one and will always recommend it to others. It leaves my skin with a lovely, dewy finish and lasts all day without budging. This is my go-to foundation for days when my skin isn’t cooperating and I need to look fresh as a daisy in a short time period. The best thing about it, it’s less than £15 and in my opinion, it is well worth it.
Sometimes the best form of distraction is to draw the attention away from the problem, so in my case, I do often use a nice lip colour for that purpose. I absolutely love the formula of this Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet Matte Liquid Lipstick. It glides on like a dream, the staying power is great and the colour is gorgeous. So, if in doubt, use the distraction method, always works a treat.
If all else fails and you are unable to make yourself look half decent – how about another distracting tip? – Use nail colour. The Sally Hansen Color Therapy Nail Polishes come in a range of lovely shades – the formula applies well and the colour has super long-lasting power. I always apply re-do my nails on a Saturday (love a good routine) and when I wear a Sally Hansen polish, it lasts me 5 days without a chip in sight. I always feel really glam with nail polish on, so it’s definitely a good way to distract as well as make yourself feel great.
