XY Hotel Bugis is located in one of my favourite areas in Singapore, Bugis. The area is full of vibrancy, houses the trendiest bars and restaurants and generally, has the most instagrammable places in the country. Within walking distance of Kampong Glam, XY Hotel is classed as a boutique hotel and has already built a following on Instagram which is where I originally found them. I immediately liked the style of the hotel and knew that I wanted to stay there for a few days during my trip.
If you like a bit of quirkiness, then you will love the designs of each hotel room. Why? Because no room is the same, they are all individually designed by various artists and each room has a completely different feel. I stayed in two different rooms due to the air conditioning breaking down on me on the first night. This wasn’t a problem for the hotel though, they swiftly moved me to another vacant room that was just as unique as the first and ever so slightly more spacious - #winwinsitu. Both rooms I stayed in contained a comfortable, fluffy bed, a fully stocked up bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. There was also a HandyPhone in each room which allows you to use minutes and data whilst roaming around Singapore - gone are the days where having to purchase a sim card or painstakingly leaching outside coffee shops for wifi. Another feature of the phone is that you can control several amenities via the app such as opening the curtains, turning on the light and switching on the air conditioning even when you’re not back at the room yet – how cool is that?!
One of the main reasons I couldn’t wait to stay at XY Hotel was because I noticed they had a pool – this is normally pretty rare with boutique hotels, but alas, XY made it happen. Situated at the top of the balcony area of the hotel, the pool has a glass bottom which for some, can be quite odd as it links directly to where the open dining area is within the hotel meaning when someone is eating downstairs, they will see the pitter patter of feet walking above them – this, however, didn’t faze me, and I loved having the option to cool down in the pool after a hot day. Dining wise, there is no restaurant inside the hotel, but with the number of eateries that can be found as soon as you set foot outside, there really isn’t an issue finding somewhere to eat at all. The hotel offers breakfast for their guests which is hearty enough to start the day with and free coffee all day which is fab.
Overall, I loved my stay at XY Hotel Bugis – the location was great, close to so many restaurants, and shopping places. If I was to suggest an ideal day around the hotel, it would be – check in, drop your bags and freshen up. Then go out and explore the area, shop around and check out the sights. Come back to the hotel and drop off your stuff, then head out for some dinner, before winding down for a massage (I highly recommend the Green Apple Spa which is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel). If you’re feeling peckish after dinner, grab some supper at the local eateries and head back for a blissful night of relaxation and sleep – I assure you that the when you wake up the next day, you will feel super rejuvenated.
*I would like to thank XY Bugis Hotel for the lovely stay and Hwee, the ever so sweet boss lady for guiding me around the area.
