Today, I have the lovely Olivia Golding guest posting on Raining Cake. Olivia contacted me after coming across my blog not long ago. She is an aspiring writer with a massive passion for fashion since she was young and has been guest posting on other blogs too to build up her portfolio. So, here I would like to introduce you to Olivia and I hope you enjoy reading her post as much as I did.
Must-have summer essentials for 2013
As I sit here writing this, the sun is shining outside, the sky is blue and I’m deciding whether it’s warm enough to treat myself to an ice-cream. Finally, summer’s here!
The only problem is, all the cold weather we’ve been having recently means I haven’t even thought about my summer wardrobe, or my warm weather skin routine. Cue a panic about pale legs, exfoliating and whether last year’s tops still look any good.
If you’re feeling totally unprepared for the sudden appearance of sunshine then don’t worry! I’ve chosen my top summer essentials to get you sorted in 2013.
How to beautify yourself:
Soap & Glory – Sugar Crush Body Scrub
This is the best body scrub I’ve used… ever! Not only do the big chunks of smashed brown sugar help to get rid of any stubborn dry skin, but it’s full of lime, macadamia grains and almond oil, which smells divine!
L’Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze Express Pro Spray
I’ve got a bit of a love-hate relationship with fake tan. I love the healthy summer glow it gives me, but I hate applying it as it’s such a chore – and there’s a lot of potential for things to go wrong. The new Sublime Bronze Express Pro Spray from L’Oreal comes with an ultra-wide diffuser to ensure an even spray, however I’d recommend getting a fake tan mitt for blending as well. Plus it dries quickly!
Bobbi Brown Sheer Colour cheek tint
In summer I prefer to keep my makeup to a minimum – there’s nothing worse than having your face clogged up with foundation and products when it’s hot. For a girly glow without the cakiness of powder, use Bobbi Brown’s Sheer Colour cheek tint for a subtle but fresh glow.
Summer wouldn’t be complete without a fresh, sunny fragrance and I’ve got two favourites. If you want to treat yourself, indulge in Balenciaga L’Eau Rose, which has hints of blackberry before notes of violet, rose and patchouli emerge.
Alternatively, for something cheap and cheerful (but no less delicious) CK One Summer, with its fresh zingy citrus scent is the perfect choice.
Clothes you’ve got to have:
Obviously shorts are a staple summer wardrobe item, but have you ever thought about wearing them to work? City shorts are a chic alternative to skirts and dresses in summer – look for tailored designs in classic hues like navy, camel or black. And make sure they’re long enough! Hot pants are NOT work appropriate…
While stripy tops are a given summer staple, this year it’s all about stripy dresses. Whether you choose a long stretchy maxi dress or a shorter, sporty tennis dress, just make sure it’s covered in the bold horizontal print and you’ll be sorted.
Jeans and heavy trousers might be too much for the warmer months, but chic cropped capri pants are perfect. Go for pretty floral prints or any graphic patterns for a look that’s bang-on trend and wear with a classic white blouse for work, or casual slouchy T-shirts for the weekend.
Living in the UK means that, unfortunately, even during summer we’re subject to regular showers. On days when it’s looking a bit grey and stormy, go for an Aztec print dress or a patterned top worn with navy jeans. This is the perfect in-between design as is colourful enough for summer, but edgy enough for darker days too.
So there you have it, my summer essentials guide. What are your summer essentials for 2013?
