My Three Step Tanning Routine

easiest way to fake tan

If you all know me well enough, you would already know that I love having an all year round tan. However, my budget doesn’t allow me to jet off monthly, to hot countries to top up on the Vitamin D, so I have to rely on a tan out of the bottle to keep me looking bronzed at all times. I believe that after a number of years of experimenting, I have now got my routine right down to a tee and it is really not as hard as some of you may think. All it takes is a little concentration, being thorough and mastering the after care. So today, I am sharing with you, my three step tanning routine.

Scrub It – Dead skin build up is not a good look in general, let alone for tanning. Fake tan always apply and look better when your skin is smooth and rid of anything dryness, so a good scrub is a must. I am currently using Sanctuary Spa’s Ultimate Salt Scrub (*) which contains dead sea salt and blend of skin softening oils. It leaves my skin super smooth, nicely moisturised and ready for the next step. Also, until the 28th February, all sales of the Ultimate Salt Scrub will go towards Wellbeing of Women which is an amazing charity focusing on a womb cancer research project.

Tan It – I always start from the top of my body and go down, so using a mitt (the best thing ever!) and my current favourite tan, the St Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse (*). I apply the tan, very thoroughly, all over my body, paying extra attention to the insides of my arm, my armpits and the backs of my knees as these are the areas I use to always forget to fake tan and I’d end up with random patches. With this particular tanning product, you can decide how deep you want the colour to be based on how long you leave the tan on for, so if you want a light tan, leave it on for one hour, a medium tan, two hours and a deep tan, three hours. I normally leave it on overnight and the colour is just perfect when washed off in the shower, the next day.

Moisturise It – To maintain my tan, I always, always moisturise my skin after a bath/shower. The moisture and oils in a body lotion will keep your tan for longer while also giving you smooth and soft skin. The body moisturiser that I’m currently using is the I Love Raspberry & Blackberry Nourishing Body Butter (*) which smells absolutely gorgeous and really helps to maintain my bronzed skin as well as giving it the hydration it needs.

I've seen a ton of St. Tropez around and I've always wondered if it really worked. I didn't know that they could be variable like that. Very interesting!

Thanks for the tips! I use to never exfoliate when I used self tanner and it ended up looking super blotchy. I've been meaning to try St Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing as I've seen so many reviews on it. Do they only come in a Mousse?
