Balancing work and personal life can be a tough one for many of us. We have trouble managing the two, hurting our health, relationships and happiness in the long run. If you feel like you’re stuck in this cycle and you’re struggling to find ways to get out of it, here are some tips to find the right balance for yourself.

Take regular breaks
If like me, you become so engrossed in daily work tasks that you end up forgetting to take a break or worst, forgetting to have lunch or even a sip of water. This isn’t healthy and will affect your productivity, so always rest and recharge yourself frequently.
Leave work at work
When your contracted work hours are done, then your work day ends there. Leave all work-related tasks alone and try not to worry about them until you’re due back in again the next day. When you set foot away from your working environment, it is time to unwind and take a break.

Don’t be afraid to say no
It can be hard to say no to your manager’s demands when it comes down to work, especially if you’re the type that enjoys doing multiple tasks as a challenge. Take a step back and consider whether you’ve got the capability to take on more and ask for some time to think and talk about it before agreeing immediately.
Nothing is ever perfect
Striving for perfection can be good and bad, good because you know exactly what you want and how to get it, bad, because it can be overly stressful working towards it and most times, impossible to achieve. Lose the pressure on yourself and strive for the best without overworking yourself.

Switch off
This one is probably the easiest to say, but hardest to do, however, if you switch off your devices and refrain from checking work emails and texts, it really helps to separate and define a boundary between professional time and personal time and allows you to focus on doing non-work related activities.

Love this so much! I definitely think saying no is super important – you can burn yourself out otherwise! xx

Fab article.
I use to be that person who literally took work home to try and reduce my expanding work pile! In the end it took my colleague to tell me to stop; when you clock off, you clock off. I look back and think ”DOH . .silly girl”. But we live and learn, I guess!
