A couple of weeks back, I took a little visit to Radio Hair Salon in Shoreditch. I had previously been there before for a cut and blow-dry which was lovely and the salon itself is modern, with a rustic and trendy vibe which suits its location right down to the tee. This time round, I booked in for colour, I wanted to go for a warmer tone on my roots and stretch the dark area further down to mixed in with my lighter ends.

I was introduced to Claire, who I have been told, is the queen of balayage, so I knew I was in safe hands. Claire talked me through the new Gloss Lights Technique which is a new launch at Radio Hair and involves a tailored colour palette combining highlights or balayage with an overall gloss or ammonia-free permanent tint to achieve the desired look. As well as colour, I also had the Redken PH Bonder Treatment which is an extra £20 to the total cost. The treatment is split in to two sections, the first part is mixed in with the lightener and colour and helps to protect and repair the internal structure of the hair during the colouring process. The second part is applied at the wash basin, cleaning out negative ions and unwanted salts and puts a protective sleeve around the hair, so all the good work is locked in. The treatment also keeps the PH level at a neutral level meaning it leaves hair with more strength and allows the colour to last longer.

Because my hair is generally quite limp most of the times, I wanted a more voluminous blow-dry. So styling wise, a spritz of the Bumble and Bumble Tonic detangled and prepped my hair. Then the Repair balm was applied to protect against the heat and a mist of the Thickening Spray for body and hold. Lastly, it was finished off with Dryspun which is one of my all-time favourite Bumble products for texturising and a thin layer of Brilliantine was applied to add some definition.

All in all, the whole process took around four hours and I absolutely love the tones of my hair and the way it glistens in different lights. My hair feels soft and nourished and looks healthy even after all the colour, thanks to the Redken treatment, so it’s definitely something I would recommend having. The service at Radio Hair Salon was amazing, everyone was so lovely and a huge thanks to my amazing hair colourist, Claire for my gorgeous balayage.
