Citizen M Tower of London – The perfect hotel for a staycation
A few weeks back, I checked in to Citizen M Tower of London Hotel – “London, did you hear I say?” But I live in London is what you must be thinking. Yep, I do, born and bred, but it doesn’t stop me from wanting to be to in the heart of it all from time to time and Tower Hill is the perfect location to stay in since it’s close to many bars and restaurants; the famous Tower of London is just a short walk away and the underground station is only a stone’s throw from the hotel, making it super convenient for all guests.
An overview of the hotel:
370 luxury rooms
24/7 restaurant area
Living room style lobby
Cosy front of house coffee bar
Quick self check-in system
Tablet control technology in all rooms
Free, high speed wifi
I arrived at the Citizen M just after 6pm and was surprised to see there was no bog standard reception desk, but was greeted with super friendly receptionists amongst a few touch screen computer screens. The whole idea is to quicken up the process with a self check-in system and in less than a minute, I had activated my key card and was on my way to my room. Check in time is from 2pm and I was advised that the earlier you check in, the more chance you have in getting a room with a better view, so that's something to bear in mind.
Citizen M have ensured that all rooms have the same concept design that breathes uniqueness, style and comfort - this I agree with very much. The king size bed is pushed right beside the window so I was able to take in the amazing views in comfort. Right in front of the bed, there'a a TV which I can control with the touch-screen pad, actually pretty much everything in the room can be controlled on that pad - lighting, window blinds, heating, alarm clocks and much more. My room also had an en-suite bathroom with rain showers and large bottles of shampoo and shower gel, so if I forgot mine, there was no need for me to worry, Citizen M had me covered.
The 24/7 restaurant, located on the ground floor is huge, so there's plenty of space for everyone. The decor is trendy and quirky with an urban vibe making it perfect for those Instagram pictures. Serving up seasonal, homemade dishes and all the coffee under the sun (Matcha Latte was amaze by the way guys), there is no need to head anywhere else. On the top floor, sits the cloudM bar which is exclusive to Citizen M guests, this means I was allowed to take in the best views of the city san huge crowds whilst sipping on my favourite cocktail, incred right? I was a little pushed for time on the morning I left which meant I could only grab a quick breakfast before heading off, luckily, there was a coffee stop at the front of the hotel, which was super convenient for me to get a coffee on the go.
My stay at Citizen M was for leisure, however, for those who are staying because of business, the living room style lobby area is perfect for workaholics who need a comfy and cosy workspace to log on. Free, high speed wifi is available all throughout the hotel and I was able to surf to my heart's content. For those who forgot their laptops, there are iMacs located in the lobby area for all guests to use. However, I didn't want to spend too much of my free time glued to the screen and opted to chill out and read a book; and even if I didn't bring one, the lobby library is full of design-led and travel books were enough to keep me occupied in the evening. The lobby area was actually my favourite part of the hotel as it made me feel so at home with the comfy sofas, ambient lighting and chilled out environment.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and highly recommend Citizen M for vacations/staycations/business trips. It's super convenient, located in one of the most central areas in London and have the best amienties you could ask for in a hotel.
