Ah, travelling -- it’s something that many of us would like to do on a full-time basis, but alas, there are some pretty big obstacles standing in the way of this becoming true, the biggest of which being that it’s pretty darn expensive to travel around the world! But as with all problems in the world, this is an issue that can be overcome, providing you know a few useful tricks that’ll help you raise the funds that you need (looking up how to save money when travelling is also recommended). Take a read of our advice below, get saving, and begin looking forward to your trip.
We’re a country of hoarders. We buy, buy, buy, and never sell, sell, sell. If you’ve never had a clearout before, then it’s possible that you’re in a pretty strong position when it comes to raising money for your trip. The average British home has thousands of pounds worth of unused goods just sitting there. A few thousand would look pretty good in the travel savings account, right? Take a look around your house, and get to selling all those items you no longer use or need -- it’ll get your savings moving in the right direction.
Host a Party
Your friends and family love you, but they’re not going to pay you to travel the world. There are actual websites where people ask others to fund their holidays! Can you imagine? It’s shameful. Instead of just asking your loved ones for money, why not host a “fundraiser”? It works wonderfully well. You get a venue, hire a DJ, and throw a party - and charge for entry. Your friends and family get to have a great night, and you get to take home the raised funds. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
Renting Your Home
If you have a home, then you’ve got the perfect opportunity to make some travel money! Before you go, you can bring in a tenant for a few months -- they’ll add hundreds to your travel fund each month. And you can continue to earn money from your home while you’re away, too. Work with a company that offers rental management services, and you’ll be able to bring in an income as you’re travelling. Most people see their bank balance slowly - or sometimes rapidly - depleting when they’re on the move. You might see your bank balance grow!
As You Travel
That’s not the only way you can bring in some cash when you’re on your travels. While you might want to be loose-free and simply go where the wind takes you, there’s something to be said for getting a part-time job when you're overseas. Of course, you’ll want to first check that it’s legal for you to work in the country you’re visiting, but if it is, it can be a great way top up your travel fund and meet new people, too.
It’s always possible to travel the world, but you do have to make it a priority, and get clever with your funding options!
