Who said dark hair girls can’t go blonde? As much as it takes a bit more work, blonde on dark haired girls can look amazing if I say so myself #blushes. I was invited along to Charles Worthington Salon in Central London to learn all about their newly launched Blonde Menu which consisted of six types of blonde haired styles that can be achieved in salon. As a relatively new and inexperienced client of blonde hair, I found the menu a godsend as each style was explained to me including the process, picking/matching the shade via a colour chart and the aftercare such as how to maintain the blonde and how long between the upkeep is needed. The consultation time is always the most important for hair colourists and clients as this time is really used to find out exactly what the client wants and for the hair colourist to figure out the best way to achieve the end result.
The flagship Charles Worthington store is based on Percy Street, London, with another two branches at Broadgate and Great Queen Street, also in London. The flagship salon itself is modern and spacious with beautiful décor. I had the pleasure of having Head of Colour, the lovely Katie Hale work on my hair and after a thorough chat through the blonde menu and a few Pinterest picture exchanging, we agreed on having balayage which I was all for.
The technique used was free-hand balayage with foils using L’Oréal 9 Levels Blonde which is enough to lift on a dark base like mine. Katie also backcomb my roots before applying the colour to get the right blend, so the line wasn’t too harsh. When the blonde came off, a toner was applied to cool the colour giving it a more ashier shade, then a 2-step treatment was applied to condition and promote shine. Katie then blow dried my hair and gave me some loose waves showing off my new blonde balayage perfectly.
I honestly can’t recommend Charles Worthington Salon and their blonde menu enough. If you’re new to blonde, it has some great starter options and if you’re already a fan of blonde, it’s perfect for upkeeping your colour.
P.S. I hear through the grapevine that they may launch a brunette menu in the future, so stay tuned for that!
This was a #gifted experience, all opinions are my own.
