When you are trying to eat a healthy diet and develop a better relationship with food, it’s likely that you will be overwhelmed by all of the conflicting information that is out there. Some people say that cutting out carbs is the key, some people say that meat and dairy need to go, some people say everything in moderation is fine. There are so many different types of diet and it seems like the recommendations on food are constantly changing, so how are you supposed to know what you should and shouldn’t eat? The truth is, there is no definitive answer about what the ideal diet is and at the moment, there are pros and cons to all of the different diets that are out there. But the biggest problem when it comes to healthy eating is that it’s all so overcomplicated. People champion different diets that involve cutting out certain food groups entirely and sticking to a strict regime with every meal, but you don’t need to do that if you want to be healthy. One thing that most experts can agree on is that processed foods are worse for you than healthy foods. All of the vitamins and nutrients your body needs are in natural foods like fruit, vegetables, and meat. There is no real need to add anything to your food, and most of the stuff that is added is not good for you. All of the extra salt, sugar, fat, and flavourings are unnecessary, so try to do without them where possible. This is the closest you can get to a right answer when it comes to your diet. Eat natural food, as it comes out of the ground, and you should be fine. You do, of course, need to manage the amount that you eat and find a good balance, but it tends to be the processed food that causes you the most problems. 

Be Mindful About Food 

Your attitude towards food is important too and, unfortunately, most of us have a pretty poor one. We don’t really think about what we eat or how much of it we eat, or where it comes from and whether it’s good for us. This is even true of people that are cautious about their health because they are likely to grab health foods without checking the ingredients, and they won’t worry about portions because they assume it’s healthy food. But if you want to be truly healthy, you need to be mindful about your food and your relationship with it. Pay attention to your food when you are eating it and really think about how big your portions are and how natural and healthy your dishes are.

Limit Your Fats 

If you want more practical advice about what you should and shouldn’t eat, limiting fats is one of the most important things. However, people tend to get the wrong idea and think that no fat at all is the way to go, but it isn’t. Your body needs some fat to operate properly, but too much is not good, so you need to strike a balance. But sugar is the exception to that rule and you should try to get rid of it from your diet. It’s addictive and when you are eating sugary foods, you will just keep going. You even get withdrawal symptoms after your sugar high fades away and it can seriously affect your mood. All of that excess sugar will lead to weight gain, fatigue, and problems with your gut health. But it’s hard to cut it out because there are so many foods that have added sugar that you didn’t even think about. Most people will get rid of the sweets and cakes, but what about things like cereal or fruit juice? They’re both packed full of sugar, even though we typically think of them as healthy. That’s another reason why eating natural foods is so important.
