It is such a significant question in everybody's lives but when we start to think about whether we want to be more mindful in our day-to-day lives or we need to chase some sort of happiness or self-fulfilment we have to address the elephant in the room: yourself. We can struggle to understand when to move on, not because of any external circumstances but we are holding ourselves back. But there are moments when we have to realise that what we are doing is not benefiting anybody, not least us. So what can we do to understand the signs but also move on in life effectively?
Do You Think About The Past More Than The Present?
Many people “live in the past” for various reasons. There may be constant reminders or there may be a moment, such as a friend passing. But it's important to remember that you can't live in the past. Or if you are glorifying the past for some reason you might struggle with the present situation. In these instances, it's important to take the opportunities to get away from everything that reminds you of your old life. It gives you a clean slate. Possibly take the opportunity to put items into storage and go travelling. Or, at the very least, try and purge items or people that are reminiscent of your past but haven't given you the opportunity to develop yourself.
Do You Feel Exhausted?
There is so much of daily living that can exhaust us. Whether it's your job or certain people, if you always feel drained, this is a particular problem. Taking the opportunity to look at every aspect of your life and weed out the bad aspects is not an easy task. You may find that there are parts of your life that are well embedded and won’t give up easily. But if you start to look at these components and see they are exhausting you or tiring you out for whatever reason, you've got to figure out a way around it or remove it completely.
Do You Hope For Change?
It's not possible to change other people. At the same time, we can't pray that the next thing will make us happy. Reality is when we accept who we are and take responsibility for our own happiness. If we're not able to be happy with how things are, it is time to move on. If you constantly hope for change, it's now time for a serious dose of reality. Because you are the only person that can change yourself in any equation, this is when you have to start looking into the mirror and letting certain things go. These could be psychological hang-ups or these could be people that don't bring out the best in you.
The important thing is to remember when you are moving on, is that it can be scary. But because you are going somewhere new that will be for the best, learning to move on is one of those exciting yet anxiety-inducing moments in life. But it always yields a positive return.
