Making Your Garden Feel Like a Holiday

garden holiday

If you’re anything like most people, you’re probably desperate for a holiday right now. You can think of nothing better than getting away from it all, preferably somewhere hot and sunny, and pretending 2020 isn’t happening. Unfortunately, with travel restrictions still in place, and many even becoming stricter, the chances of jet setting off to the beach are looking slim. However, you don’t need to give up on your holiday just yet! If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, whatever size or shape, you already have the perfect relaxing location to make the most of. With a few tweaks and improvements, you can transform your backyard into the perfect substitute-getaway, ready for you to enjoy at a moment’s notice.

The View

So, you might not be looking out over the Mediterranean sea, or across the nightlife of Malaga, but the least you can do is make sure you’re not punishing your eyes with dirt, grime and issues to fix. After all, who wants to spend their ‘holiday’ worrying about the state of their plastering? The first step to creating the perfect garden getaway is to ensure the outside of your house is spick and span. Use a service like PorterVac to clean your gutters and roof, ensuring you can relax and stare up into the sky, rather than catching your gaze on all those trapped leaves and old bird nests.

The Right Furniture

Once you’ve sorted the view, it’s time to address the garden itself. First, the basics. What’s the best way to achieve that I’m-on-a-beach feeling? That’s right, it’s a beach chair. Reclining chairs fit surprisingly well in any garden and offer the perfect spot to read, nap, tan (fingers crossed for the sun!), and have that afternoon tipple you’ve been craving. Choose the best spot for your chair to receive the most sunlight, and pair it with a little table for snacks. Soon, you’ll have created a nook you’ll never want to leave, even if someone offered you a flight to Corsica tomorrow.

Don’t have a green touch? Don’t worry about it. Flowers are the perfect way to spice up your garden and make yourself feel on holiday, but you don’t have to already have a perfectly manicured garden to benefit from this idea. Simply buy some potted geraniums and line them up wherever you want for a gorgeous burst of colour. They’re super easy to take care of (just water them when their soil gets dry to the touch), and nothing will make you happier than watching them blossom and grow.

Many people have spent months working from home, and with your new ‘office’ so close by, it can be difficult to tear yourself away, even though you’re technically on holiday. Use your garden as a safe space from work, and promise yourself that the moment you step outside, you’re not allowed to think about anything work-related. This will have the same effect as leaving it all behind by aeroplane - except your holiday will be cheaper, safer, and all from your own back garden!
